British pearl jewellery brand, ORA Pearls, founded by pearl specialist Bibi Southwell, has opened its latest boutique, The Pearl Shop, in the heart of Whitstable on Harbour Street. The store’s marine aesthetic reflects the brand’s identity: elegant, modern, and rooted in a deep appreciation for nature’s most natural gem.

Bibi who spends her time between Whitstable and Chelsea, the location of ORA’s Pearls' flagship store and studio, recognised that the brand was a perfect fit for Whitstable, a town with a rich history of oyster fishing that closely echoes the brand’s connection to pearls and oysters.

Bibi, a long-time pearl specialist with over two decades of experience, has spent years sourcing from pearl farming communities around the world. Every collection reflects this depth of knowledge, paired with a modern design sensibility that balances minimalism and timelessness. All pieces are handmade by Bibi herself. 

In addition to its signature pearl pieces, The Pearl Shop also offers permanent welded jewellery - a growing trend in which custom-fit bracelets or anklets are painlessly welded on, symbolising connection, celebration or personal milestones. 

The boutique is more than just a jewellery store reflecting the founder’s appreciation of the ocean and featuring her private collection of different pearl oyster species from around the around. Bibi is also an avid shell and curio collector and the store also features various objects d'art created by the designer and a curated selection of gifts and small objects which are chosen with care and creativity. Its warm, aquatic-inspired interior sets it apart from anything else in the area: quirky, elegant, and completely one-of-a-kind.

A small, all-female team leads the brand behind The Pearl Shop, with a commitment to sustainability, craftsmanship, and supporting women in a male-dominated field.

Everything is made in limited quantities to avoid overproduction, using recyclable packaging and ethical sourcing.
